Weight pulling for dogs can be fantastic outlet for your dog. Pit bulls, rottweilers, as well as bull dogs have a natural competitive spirit. As do their owners in some cases. Although many breeds of dogs excel in weight pulling, it is the pit bull game. Their determination and desire to please their owners has catapulted the breed over traditional Northern breeds bred for that were bred for sledge pulling.
At these events, there is no scoring involved. It basically comes down to which dog can pull the most weight. In the event of a tie, the winner is decided by the best time. The surfaces may vary from sleds used on snow, to wheeled carts on a dirt surface. Although natural surfaces are preferred, wheeled carts are also used on carpets from time to time. At these events, the first step is paying your entry fee and filling out the required paper work. Once your dog is weighed in they will be placed in the appropriate weight class. Starting weights and weight increments are then voted on by the entrants in each class. The entrants of each class will then compete with each other through rounds of increasing weight increments. The competition doesn't end until there is a winner (the dog that is left that pulled the most weight). Food is not allowed to be used as bait. The dog must pull on it's own, or by command from it's owner.

CANINE SUPPLEMENTS AND NUTRITION
Nutrition plays an important role in the winner's circle. Some people prefer to use dog supplements such as bully max to provide essential vitamins, minerals, and proteins that are essential for your dog's health. These supplements aid in muscle growth, health, speed, as well as recovery. Dog supplements can be purchased online at in our order section. A quality dog food is also essential. A grain free dog food with no fillers would be a start to choosing the right food. There are many quality dog foods on the market, such as Before Grain (BG), Blue Buffalo, Ennova, and Evo. Although they are a bit on the pricey side, they are worth it in the long run. Feeding raw is not always recommended and contacting a Vet prior to feeding raw would be a good idea. Raw diets for your dog would include chicken, vegetables, rice, eggs, cottage cheese, and fruit. Weight pulling pit bull supplements such as Bully Max are very beneficial for your dogs over all health and strength.

We recommend Bully Max for your dog. An absolute must for all weight pulling dogs. This supplement is designed to build muscle, build endurance, and is excellent for muscle recovery.

The IWPA is the International Weight Pulling Association for dogs. The Championships take place at the end of the weight pulling around late April / early May. They take place in the USA or Canada.
IWPA are planned with the safety of the dogs in mind. There are no competitions during the hot summer days to avoid straining the dogs. A minimum age of 12 months is also required in order for dogs to compete. The IWPA is one of the elite pulling organizations compared to others. Other organizations are questionable since titles are more easily acquired. Some allow handlers to continue to encourage dogs to pull, even when they show signs of wanting to quit. Some allow baiting as well which can be unsafe. The main concern is that these events are held with the safety and health of the animals in mind.
At an IWPA pull, each dog's harness is attached to the cart, or sled in event that it is held in the snow. The dog then has 60 seconds to pull the load 16 feet without the owner touching the dog or the line that holds the load. Dogs cannot be "baited" with food, toys, or other objects. Dogs can earn three titles, the Working Dog (WD) for pulling 12 times their body weight at four different pulls. The Working Dog Excellent (WDX) for pulling 18 times their body weight at four different pulls, and the Working Dog Superior (WDS) for pulling 23 times their body weight at three different pulls. Dogs can also compete for regional and national ranking.
The International Weight Pulling Association was organized in 1984 to promote the heritage of the working dog.
